Why Your Band Can’t Survive on Bandcamp

Bandcamp is a great way to start with a website. It’s a hub where you can put your music up for free, list your social media handles, put up a small bio, sell your merchandise, and promote your music.

But it’s not good enough if you want to take the next step in your music career.

Think of bands out there that you really like.

Go to their websites. Here are a few examples:

Taylor Swift

Florence and the Machine

The Killers

See how each website is designed in a way to reflect their music, their style and their personas?

Bandcamp features everything in one place, but it can’t be designed to match you or your band.

This is why a website is so important to make it look the way you want, to show people who you are, to catch their eye, and pull them in.

Your fans don’t just want to see or hear your music, they want to connect with you. They want to think you’re cool and also have it be proven that you’re cool.

Putting your music and a photo on Bandcamp doesn’t reveal who you are the way a streamlined designed website would.

With a website, you can pull your fans in, show them who you are. Ultimately, you want your fans to engage with you by:

  • Coming to a show,

  • Signing up for your newsletter, or

  • Buying your music & merchandise.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve discovered plenty of great music and bands on Bandcamp. I love it and think it’s a great way to start out with you band or music.

I’m talking about if you’re ready to step out from the safety of Bandcamp.

If you’re ready to change up what you’ve been doing for years that isn’t working anymore.

If you’re ready to really show the world who you are.

If you’re ready to take a giant step in your music career.

The world is on their phones, that’s how we work. Social media, websites and emails rule our waking worlds.

Bandcamp is a great way to start with your presence online. A custom designed website separates you from being a beginner to a professional musician.

Click here if you’re ready to show the world the rockstar within!
